Sheila C. Dailey

November 8, 1930 — December 29, 2024

Sheila Mary (Convery) Dailey, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Brandywine Reflections. Sheila was born to the late Dr. Robert and Viola Convery in Trenton on November 8, 1930, the third of their six children.

She graduated from Neptune High School in 1948. Sheila met the love of her life, Bernard “Dewey” Dailey at Fort Monmouth and they married in 1951. They moved from Monmouth to Ocean County in the early 1960s and settled in Point Pleasant in 1965. Sheila and Dewey were devoted, hard-working, and loving parents who raised a lively and close family of 9 children while very happily married for 23 years.

Regrettably, Dewey passed away fifty years ago at the young age of 46, leaving Sheila at 44 to raise the family on her own. She did an incredibly admirable job and has been beloved by her family and admired by everyone who knew of her and her journey.

Sheila did administrative work before marriage, after which she became a full-time wife, mother and homemaker. That was her greatest occupation and passion. After Dewey’s death, she was resourceful, piecing together work at St. Martha’s Church and in retail and housecleaning before taking a refresher course which allowed her to return to office work. She was employed at a number of places, most notably, Ocean National Bank in Pt. Pleasant. Upon retiring from that position, she worked part-time at the Asbury Park Press for many years.

Known for her abiding love for family, deep faith, and quick wit, Sheila will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by: Her nine children: John Richard (Barney) and Steven of Jackson; Gregory of Toms River; Tammy and husband, William Wagner, of Portland, OR; Barbara and husband, Thomas O’Brien, of Jamaica, VT; Robert and partner, Penny Reynolds, of Lake Mary, FL; Sheila Ivany and husband, Robert, of Point Pleasant; Michael and wife, Sharon, of Syracuse, NY; David and partner, Sarina Gianna, of Brick; Ten grandchildren: Loren, Meghan, Sean, Samantha, Liam, Ryan, Ian, Kevin, Phoebe, and Collin; Seven great-grandchildren (with an eighth on the way): Brody, Axel, Jensen, Layla, Ellie, Jackson, and Hendrix; as well as a sister, Barbara, of Vero Beach, FL and a brother, Michael, of Allenhurst. Besides Dewey and her parents, Sheila was predeceased by infant twin sister, Viola; infant son, Gary; brothers, Robert and William; and sister, Carol.

The family wishes to thank from the bottom of their hearts the staff at Brandywine Reflections for taking such wonderful care of Sheila for close to 5 years.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 10 @ 10am in the chapel at St. Dominic’s Church, 250 Old Squan Road, Brick. Burial will be private.
