Professor Seigina "Puck" Mina Frik of Freehold, NJ passed away on July 3, 2023 at the age of 98. She was born on April 25, 1925 to her parents Jan Frik and Aaltje Smit in Delfzijl, a seaside port town in the Netherlands. Her dad was a shipbuilder. She went to school in the area and early in high school decided on a career in nursing. While studying in the Netherlands she was invited to go to England on an exchange program and in the late 50's moved to the US on another exchange program.
Here she settled in NJ in Upper Montclair and eventually obtained her doctorate at Rutgers University. In the early 70's she was appointed Director of the American Lung Association and travelled widely in the US to lecture on the dangers of smoking and the cause of lung cancer. Later she was attached to the staff of several hospitals and universities as lecturer and professor of nursing in the NY-NJ area and was instrumental in the development of the "Nurse Practitioner" profession later also copied in several European countries.
She is survived by her nieces Aleida Stijnman-Frik and Dieneke Frik-Westerhof in the Netherlands and her cousin John Van Dyke in Las Vegas NV.
