Sandra Zimmerman

Sandra Zimmerman, 79, of Harvey Cedars, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025 at HMH Southern Ocean Medical Center.

Sandra “Sandy” Zimmerman (given name: Aleksandra Wieslawa Jakimowicz) was born on May 12, 1945 in Kahla, Germany to Aleksander Jakimowicz and Eugenia (Horodniuk) Jakimowicz. After graduating from Hoffman High School in South Amboy, NJ and Charles E. Gregory School of Nursing in Perth Amboy, NJ, Sandy went on to pursue a career in nursing. She spent her early career working at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and South Amboy Memorial Hospital before transitioning to Princeton House for 25 years. She made a significant impact through her dedication to psychiatric nursing.

Outside of work, Sandy was passionate about gardening, flowers, art, shopping, boating, sewing, and dancing. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially between her homes in Monroe Township, NJ, Harvey Cedars, NJ, and various homes on the southwest coast of Florida. She owned many pets over the years and loved cats and standard poodles in particular. Sandy was known for her sense of humor, frankness, patience, generosity, love of teaching, and being the matriarch of her family.

Married on May 6, 1967, Sandy was a devoted wife to Henry Zimmerman for 57 years. Sandy was also a loving mother to Lori Castrovinci (husband, Christopher) and dedicated grandmother to Ashley Skibniewski (husband, Michael). She was preceded in death by her parents, Aleksander and Eugenia Jakimowicz, sister, Edith Potts, and brother, Alexander Jakimowicz.

Sandy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of family members and friends.
