Roberta “Robby” Starr Friedman passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 13, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George and Edna Starr. For more than 55 years, she resided in Freehold, New Jersey with her loving husband Robert “Bob” Friedman.
Robby earned her Master of Social Work Degree from New York University. She spent much of her career directing the child study team at Millstone Township Schools. She enjoyed working with the children and providing guidance to the parents of children with disabilities.
Outside of work, Robby found joy in decorating and maintaining her home, keeping up with news and politics, and gardening. She was extremely passionate about helping those in need.
Robby is survived by her husband Bob; sister, Jennifer Friedland; brother-in-law, Dave Friedland; daughter, Samantha Friedman; son-in-law, Recai Yucel; and nephew Daniel Friedland and his wife Azlynda Alim. She leaves behind her two grandchildren, whom she adored: Ela and Kaan Yucel.
No formal service will be held. A celebration of Robby’s life will take place in Freehold after the new year, where family and friends will gather to remember her caring nature, generosity, and unwavering devotion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Fulfill, or Americares. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey and to the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group of New Jersey hospice team for their exceptional care and compassion during Robby’s final days.
