Robert Parker Ulm, Jr.

May 28, 1934 — November 19, 2018

Robert P. Ulm, Jr. of Tinton Falls, N.J. passed away on November 19th, 2018 at the age of 84. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Geraldine (Geri) Ulm, who was his 24/7 caregiver during these last 2 years of At Home Hospice care. Robert was born on May 28, 1934 in Queens, N.Y. Resided in Garden City to the late Robert P. Ulm and Ruth (nee Billings). Bob took great joy in telling people he shared his birthday with the memorable Dionne Quintuplets. Bob attended Norwich University in Vermont and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Business Administration. After relocating to his new home in Bernardsville, NJ, he proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He adored studying military history and engaged in spirited conversation for many hours with his equally dedicated officers until his discharge in 1979. During his time in the military, Bob developed specialized problem-solving and developmental operations skills that he utilized in various jobs throughout his life. He was first employed with Citibank but quickly advanced to Chase Manhattan Bank where he served as a Project Manager and Vice President of the Miami-U.S. Virgin Island region. His business prowess flourished even further when he aided in opening the first U.S. Bank with an Australian-based Insurance Company. After Chase, he worked for Amalgamated Bank serving as a Vice President until health issues forced him to retire. Bob truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; reading, chatting with friends and family, snacking, watching sports on TV and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved watching his favorite baseball player, "Pee Wee" Reese, lead the Dodgers in every game until he married a "Yankee Wife" and became a devout Bronx Bomber fan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Donald Ulm, his first wife Sara Ulm and stepson, Edward Varian. In addition to his wife Geraldine, surviving are his son, Robert Ulm and his wife, Susan, of Whitehouse Station, N.J., daughter, Laura Sadler and her husband, Richard, of Flemington, N.J., son James Ulm and his wife, Rachel, of Great Meadows, N.J., Step-daughter Karen Blanchard of Tinton Falls; and 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob requested to be cremated and his ashes will be interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown, NJ. There will be a small service at the gravesite with the immediate family. As a Military veteran, the family will be presented with the American flag. A memorial gathering will take place at a later time. The family is especially grateful to Lynne Hayes, Bobs nurse from the Visiting Nurses Association and the entire VNA staff who helped make these last few years comfortable for him. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert P. Ulm, Jr. may be directed to Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Foundation, 23 Main Street, Suite D1, Holmdel, NJ 07733 or www.vnahg.org
