It is with great sadness that the family of Rita Meeker announces her passing on August 28, 2025 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, at the age of 75.

Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, Rita was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She was known for her warm heart, strong Christian faith, and lifelong commitment to caring for others.

Rita graduated from Ocean Township High School in 1967 and continued her education, graduating nursing school in 1969. She worked as a dedicated nurse for over 50 years. Her compassion and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone she cared for.

Rita is survived by her two daughters, Megan (Jarrod) Shields, and Melissa Meeker; and three grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, and Amy Blackman all of Tinton Falls.

Rita was a proud and loving mother and grandmother. Her family (including all of her extended “adopted children and grandchildren”) was her greatest joy. She was a strong, spirited Italian woman whose fierce determination and vibrant personality left a lasting impact on everyone she met. She faced life’s challenges with courage and fought the good fight with grace, dignity, and unwavering strength.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, especially those on the Surgical ICU floor, for their exceptional care and compassion during Rita’s final days.

Rita will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in all who knew her.
