Richard Charles McCarthy, of Neptune, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born on January 7, 1957, in Newark, New Jersey, to Elsiemae McCarthy and George McCarthy. After graduating from Central Regional High School, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for six years. During his service, he traveled the world and met the love of his life, Elizabeth, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
Following his military service, Rick built a successful career with Jersey Central Power & Light, Lockheed Martin, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Outside of work, Rick found joy in gardening, cooking, and fishing. He was a devoted fan of Bruce Springsteen, the New York Giants, and the New York Mets. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and their beloved dogs. Some of his happiest moments were the simplest: gathering with family and friends over a delicious meal and a glass of wine in the beautiful backyard garden he lovingly cultivated.
Rick was known for his kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness. He had a special gift for making others feel cared for, whether through a thoughtful gift, a generous gesture, or simply taking the time to listen and understand. His warm heart and quiet generosity touched the lives of those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Rick was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving father to Ryan Nicole McCarthy and Keith Richard McCarthy, a proud and adoring Pop-Pop to Dylan Magnolia McCarthy, and a cherished father-in-law to Randy Goble and Lindsey McCarthy. He is also survived by his sisters, Gail McCarthy, Robin McCarthy, and Lois Simpkins, and his brother, Glenn McCarthy and his wife Donna McCarthy.
After settling in Neptune, Rick and Elizabeth found great joy and purpose in volunteering together at the Circle of Friends Café in Lake Como. Their time with this wonderful organization reflected Rick’s generous spirit and his desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Rick will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, as well as in the countless memories made around the table, in the garden, and in the company of those he loved most.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rick’s memory to Circle of Friends at CircleofFriendsNJ.org.
