Richard (Dick) Augusty, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Amyloidosis. Richard's indomitable spirit and enduring legacy will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 20, 1942, to Leo and Margaret Augusty. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and pursued his passion for knowledge at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that would shape his life and career.
Leveraging his electrical engineering degree, Richard embarked on a fulfilling career in computer technology. From his early days as a programmer to his later roles in business development and sales, Richard's influence spanned from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. His collaboration with technology companies and work with Westinghouse led to the development and holding of several tech patents, showcasing his dedication and innovative spirit.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richard was an avid private pilot for over 40 years. He shared countless adventures in the skies with his son Shane, attending air shows and enjoying leisurely rides along the East Coast in his Piper Arrow. His zest for life extended to the dancefloor, often accompanied by a margarita or a glass of wine. Richard's green thumb was evident in his role in helping to establish the Shrewsbury, NJ Garden Club. He generously shared the literal "fruits" of his labor, including bountiful amounts of apples. Whether on his tractor at their Sycamore Avenue home or on the beach at Chapel Beach Club, Dick embraced every moment with enthusiasm.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Margaret Augusty, his brothers Regis Augusty and Edward Augusty, and his daughter Jennifer Mayer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Carol Augusty, their two children Shane Augusty, Holly Ouellette and son-in-law Michael Ouellette. As well as his sister Barbara Matis (husband William Matis) and his daughters, Jill Ruben and Elizabeth Augusty. Additionally, he leaves a lasting legacy through his grandchildren: Bryce and Ryan Ouellette and Jake and Aaron Ruben.
