Patricia J. Kosty, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Brick, New Jersey at the age of 88.
Pat was born at Rahway Hospital and raised in New Jersey, a state she loved and never left. Loyalty and commitment were deeply ingrained in her from the beginning and continued throughout her life.
She graduated from St. Mary’s Grade School and Rahway High School, where she excelled as a member of the dance team and cheerleading squad. She was voted “Class Flirt” her senior year, a title that she pretended to be embarrassed by, but all knew she loved. She had many lifelong New Jersey friends.
In 1959, Pat married Alex Kosty. Together in Colonia, NJ, they created a family that continues to grow and flourish in their memory. “Harry” was her favorite nickname for him. They loved each other deeply, and we are comforted to know they are together again.
After graduating from Lyons Technical Institute, Pat worked as an X-ray technician, a job she loved, for her entire career. She was a member and former President of the American Association of Medical Assistants for many years.
Like many Jersey women, she was tough, but tender. Brutally honest, yet strongly compassionate. She encouraged her children to chart their own path to success and happiness. Pat didn’t take any nonsense, but she also never left your side. She valued integrity . . . and good grammar.
A proud breast cancer survivor, she faced her diagnosis with the strength, determination, and no-nonsense attitude she was known for. She met the challenge head-on and came through it with grace, never allowing it to define her. Her resilience served as an inspiration to her family and friends, and she remained a source of support and encouragement to others facing similar battles.
Pat loved the beach, enjoying many summers in Lavallette with her family. She also enjoyed her time in the Atlantic City casinos and was often happiest playing slots long into the evening, a glass of red wine nearby.
Upon retirement, Pat moved to Leisure Village East in Lakewood, New Jersey where she was a member of the Welcoming Committee, the Heritage Club, and the Pool Staff. During her time there, she not only made a home for herself but also dedicated her time to helping others feel welcome.
In the early 1980’s, she ditched her signature ash blonde locks in favor of aging naturally. Her beautiful white hair, in combination with her blue eyes, earned her the nickname, “The Silver Fox.” She embodied that persona for the rest of her life.
The Kosty family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Grace Hospice and the team at Brandywine Reflections for their compassionate care and support.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Theresa (Toots) Rovera, Peter Rovera and Allan Hamtil. Surviving Alex and Patricia are their children Cheryl O’Brien (Glenn), Lisa Dincolo (David), and Jeffrey Kosty (Patricia), and her grandchildren, Kelley Brancaccio (Kenneth), Matthew O’Brien (Jessica), Sean O’Brien (Emily), Jennifer Kosty, James Kosty, and Michael Kosty, and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Luke, Ryleigh, Tate, and Maddie. Nanny will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, at 10:00 AM at St. John Vianney R.C. Church, Colonia, NJ. Interment immediately following at Hazel Wood Cemetery, Rahway, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Alzheimer’s Association.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
