Nancy Jean (Cox) Oliviero (80) of Eatontown, NJ was granted her angel wings on October 8, 2021. She meant the world to everyone she met and made a difference to those that were lucky enough to have her in their life!
Nancy was born in Elizabeth New Jersey to Ethel & Robert Cox and grew up in Hillside New Jersey. She graduated from Hillside High in 1958, where she won a distinguished national essay award. After High School, she worked for Hillside National Bank becoming the youngest head teller at their new branch.
She was a devoted mother to her four children, raising them in her childhood home in Hillside where she resided for many years. Nancy was very involved with her children’s school where she eventually became PTA President. As they grew older, she began her career with Eastern Airlines, working in the Ionosphere Club where she charmed many celebrities, including Lucille Ball. Working with the airline gave her the opportunity to share her love of travel with her children. From the beaches to the mountains, she was very proud of the fact that her travels brought her to 49 states. The Southwest was a highlight for Nancy and her husband, Jim Oliviero. Their home was decorated with artifacts from Arizona and New Mexico, and her turquoise collection was the envy of all.
Years later, Nancy and Jim settled at the Jersey Shore. It was in 1988 that her love of travel and her deep patriotism intertwined, where she began a new career with Sato Travel at Fort Monmouth and Naval Weapons Station Earle. As the manager of the agency, she led her team and prioritized the needs of our military. Whether assisting the State Department with repatriating Kuwaiti refugees or traveling with her ticketing equipment to Naval Ship Nitro returning home from the Gulf War, Nancy was known to get the job done with empathy and compassion. During Desert Storm, she was able to enlist Sato Travel to sponsor a holiday event for the children whose parents were deployed overseas. She was later promoted to Sato’s Northeast Regional Marketing Director, where she worked until retirement.
Nancy’s faith drew her towards philanthropy, she was always a presence for those in need. One of her passions was volunteering her time with the Ronald McDonald House of Central & Northern New Jersey. A place for families with seriously ill children to find comfort while they receive care at nearby medical facilities. This eventually led her to a position as a Board Member where she was recognized for her outstanding dedication to the mission of RMH with the Arleen Mageary Award, bestowed to those that go over & beyond the responsibilities of a board member. In her later years, she was an active parishioner and Deacon at Hope Presbyterian Church where she continued to volunteer and found comfort with her friends in the congregation.
To forever cherish her memory, Nancy leaves behind her sister Judy Shields (Bill), daughter Dr. Michele Adler (Bruce), her son Steve Light (Christine), her step-daughter Kathy Schiffenhaus (Rob) and step-daughter in law Marcia Oliviero. Her loving grandchildren, KP Adler, Jeffery Oliviero, Jamie Schiffenhaus (Lizzie), Jenna Oliviero Triano (JR) and Marin Schiffenhaus as well as her beloved great grandchildren, Wesson Triano and Calvin Schiffenhaus. We will always love and remember her and all those that passed before her, her husband Jim Oliviero, her daughters Margaret, Tracy and stepson Jerry, parents Ethel (Schultz) & Robert Cox, her brothers Robert Cox and Russell Schultz.
A memorial service will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church, 1189 Hope Road, Tinton Falls, NJ on November 12th at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nancy’s name to the Ronald McDonald House of Central & Northern New Jersey at www.rmh-cnj.org or Hope Presbyterian Church at hopepresbyteriantf.com, both played an important part in Nancy’s beautiful life.
