Mrs. Muriel McCann (née Stinson), of Middletown, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021at the age of 84.
Muriel was born to parents Lucius and Grace Stinson on July 21, 1936 in Newark, NJ. She grew up as the younger of 2 daughters and graduated from South Side High School, Newark, NJ. In 1953, she married US Army soldier Paul David McCann, and the couple had two children. As an Army family, the McCanns lived in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Missouri, Virginia, Maryland, and in France, where they toured various European countries.
She worked at Salmon Paper Box Company, Matawan, NJ from 1973 through 1986. Then she became Treasurer, Vice President, and co-owner of Eagle Packaging Company, Freehold, NJ. After many successful years, including expanding to Martinsburg, West Virginia, Eagle Packaging closed. Muriel then took a position as a bookkeeper for Meridian Health in 1999. She worked in the Accounts Payable department for 15 years, until her retirement at age 80. After retiring, she lovingly dedicated herself to caring for her ill son, until his death in 2019. Following his death, she lived alone for a year with help from her granddaughter and close friends. Her own health was declining, and on December 21 she went into a coma, from which she never recovered. She later died peacefully in her home, in the hospice care of her loving daughter.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Sharon Karasic; her granddaughter, Leedah Karasic and her grandson Geoffrey Karasic and his wife Amy Karasic; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul David McCann; her son, Paul David McCann II; her parents, Lucius and Grace Stinson; and her sister, Millicent Wade Buckholtz.
Muriel was cremated on Jan. 14, 2021. Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, friends and family will be invited to attend a Celebration of Life, which will be held on an as yet undetermined future date.
The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
