Margit West

Margit West, 90, of Toms River passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024.

Margit, beloved matriarch, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born in Denmark on February 7, 1934 and later immigrated to the United States in 1960, eventually becoming a proud American citizen. She was a remarkable woman who faced life’s challenges with strength and grace.

Margit was a devoted mother to her children, John and Marianne. She was especially strong during a difficult time, caring for her family on her own after the passing of her first husband when her children were just 8 & 10 years old. Her unwavering love and support were a constant source of comfort and guidance.

She was a cafeteria worker for Toms River Schools for 25 years before retiring. She was a long time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for 30+ years. She also devoted herself to volunteer work including Care Givers of Ocean County and Grandmother’s Cupboard. She was happy to lend a hand to anyone in need and always greeted everyone with a warm smile.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert A. West, Sr, her children John Berntsen & Marianne Walsh (fiancé Scott Kenyon), grandchildren Dylan (Kourtney), Jessica (Michael), Tori & Maxwell, as well as great-grandchildren Gregory & Kennedy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday; November 23, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 11:00AM located at 1500 Hooper Ave Toms River. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holy Cross.

Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
