Margaret Mary Purcell

August 20, 1939 — December 23, 2021

Margaret Mary " Marg" Purcell, 82, Brick, NJ, died on December 23, 2021, after a long illness. She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy (Charette) Purcell and Leo T. Purcell Sr and her sister Dolores Dobbs. She is survived by her siblings Leo (Lee) T. Purcell, Fenton P. Purcell, and Mary Lou Smith. She was born in Paterson, NJ, raised in Wayne, NJ, and spent her summers in Spring Lake. Marg graduated from Benedictine Academy in Paterson, NJ, where she was the captain and MVP of her basketball team. She received her BA from Seton Hall University. Marg spent over twenty years teaching grammar school as a Benedictine nun. After leaving the convent she continued teaching at St. Rose grammar school in Belmar. Marg's main goal in life was to care for and help others. She achieved her goal many times over with family, friends, and complete strangers. Marg followed the Benedictine tradition of putting the common good before herself. Aunt Marg loved her many nieces and nephews: Dean, Colleen, Leo, Chari, Cynthia, Suzanne, Aimee, Suzie, Jackie, Jim, and Emmett. Their numerous family pictures are proudly and prominently displayed in her home. She also had her succession of beloved dogs. Marg was most content when sitting back in her recliner with either Whiskers, McGee, or Scooter on her lap. Her family thanks the many caregivers, nurses, and doctors who provided comfort to Marg during her final days. Marg was blessed with wonderful friends and neighbors. They will always be remembered for their generosity and kindness. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 5, at The Church of the Epiphany in Brick, NJ. Burial will be private.
