Major John E. Smith

Major John E. (Jack) Smith 89, of Lakewood, formerly of Toms River passed into eternal rest on March 10, 2017. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Elizabeth Smith , his three sons Jac Smith and his husband Philip Barbetta, Duffy Smith, Paul Smith and his wife Shari Lynn, and his daughter Nancye Smith, his grandchildren Morgan and Jay Maclearie, Zachary and Brodie Smith, Jay Byard, and his great grandchildren Lauren and Ayden Byard. After a successful and decorated career with the United States Army and retired in July of 1970, and a second career with N.J. Bell Telephone Company in 1988. After his retirement he traveled extensively through Europe and South America, as well as the United States . He split his time living in NJ and Ocracoke, North Carolina. Internment will be held at a later date at General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the: woundedwarriorproject.org
