Lawrence "Larry" Jernstedt

August 26, 1943 — November 18, 2024

It is with much sorrow that the family announces the passing of Lawrence (Larry) Jernstedt. Larry passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 18th 2024.

Larry was born in Jersey City, N.J. On August 26, 1943. He pursued a career in law enforcement and joined the Hudson County Police Department in 1970, working his way up the ladder, retiring as Chief of Police. He was a past member of Hudson County Chiefs of Police Association, NJSPBA Local 51 and State Delegate. He received numerous citations and awards.

Larry was one of a kind. His love for life left an impact on us all. He truly loved spending time with his family and friends. Whether he was cooking dinner for a gathering, playing cards, or listening to the golden oldies he always knew how to have a good time and was the life of the party. He loved fishing on his boat, eating lobsters, telling jokes, crossword puzzles, beautiful sunrises and bird watching. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. His legacy will live on for generations to come with all the memories, wisdom and advice he left us with.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Richard and Mary (née Fallon), Sister Geraldine, brothers Richard and John, and daughter Kelly Ann. He is survived by his wife Cynthia (née Sydor), his children, David Martin and wife Lori, Lawrence and his wife Rebekah, Christine and husband Dominic and Leonard and his wife Jessica, along with his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Alexis, Brianna, Alec, Brandon, Michael, Devon, Olivia, Lacey, and Zoey.

Our family would like to thank John Theurer Cancer Center staff, especially Melissa Baker, for their support and excellent care for the past eight years, our daughter in law Jessica and the nurses from Hackensack Meridian Hospice who provided comfort and care in his last days at home. We will forever be grateful.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
