Lawrence Joseph Darcy of Point Pleasant, passed away at home on Saturday, September 24, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Larry was born to Marian R. Darcy (Bogan) of Jersey City and Joseph J. Darcy of New York City on November 24, 1948 in Fort Monmouth, NJ. He was raised at the Jersey Shore until age 11, when his family relocated to El Paso, Texas. He later returned to Point Pleasant to raise his own children.
Larry was an Army veteran and served his country in Vietnam in the 1st Air Cavalry Division from 1969 to 1970. After the war, he began what became a 38 year career as a union Ironworker. He was a member of El Paso Local 263 and Perth Amboy Local 373.
Larry joyfully shared the last 38 years of his life with his beloved wife Robbie Darcy (Wilson). He is also survived by his son Bogan Darcy, daughter Sunshyne Darcy and her husband Jamie Paradise, as well as his three treasured granddaughters Lola Bee, Willa Rose and Noa Faye. Larry was not only a brother but a dear friend to each of his siblings: Rosemary Maupin, Patricia Moorcroft, Catherine Darcy, Joan Darcy, Elizabeth Darcy, and James Darcy. He is also survived by his nieces Amanda, Jennifer, Lacey, Bridget, and Jamie, and his nephew Joseph. He loved, and was loved by, his extended family including the Bogans, Birdsalls, Wilsons, Barnetts, Paradises, and many wonderful friends. Larry wanted for nothing whether he was out fishing on the Atlantic, or sitting on his deck listening to music with family and friends.
The family will receive visitors at The Bay Head House on Monday, Oct 3 from 3:00-6:30 pm at 436 Club Drive, Bay Head. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Headstrong Project to benefit veterans at www.getheadstrong.org.
