Laura L. Chappell

Laura Lee Chappell, 58, departed this life September, 25, 2017, after a long illness. She was born in Manhattan on October 20, 1958 to John and Joyce Chappell. Laura was an athlete and a scholar, playing tennis for Holmdel High School, and graduating with a B.S. degree from Smith College. She started Chappell Nursery, in Lebanon, CT., where she grew rare and hardy rhododendron. Laura loved science, the great outdoors, advocating environmental issues, and painting. Laura is survived by her parents (John and Joyce), her sisters and brother (Pam, Allegra, and Jim), nieces and nephews (Hayley, Elizabeth, Andrew and Nicholas), and her beloved dog, Piper. The family will hold private services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laura’s name to the Botanic Garden of Smith College, 23 Elm St. Northampton, MA 01063.
