Larry G. Zimmerman age 61 passed away December 24, 2018 at Jersey Shore Univ. Medical Center. Larry was born in Red Bank and raised in Middletown. He is a 1976 graduate of Middletown H.S. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, where he was a BMSN attached to the USS ARIZONA memorial. While serving in the Navy, Larry came to learn that he was afflicted with a mental illness. He valiantly fought his struggles head on, lived his life with dignity and humor. Willingly discussing his illness. Early in life Larry developed a strong love of nature, and spent much of his free time bird watching while hiking in the woods surrounding Middletown. His other hobbies included stamp and coin collecting, reading about history, and listening to music. Larry had a quick wit and dry humor, and would openly joke about his mental illness. Putting people at ease, who may have felt uneasy talking about it. He attended C.P.C of Aberdeen, and Gateway of Ocean. He was a proud member of the Reformed Church of Tinton Falls. After a six week hard fought battle, Larry lost his fight from complications due to smoking. His family would like to thank the Dr's and Staff at Jersey Shore Medical Center, for their compassion and kindness during his stay. He is survived by his mother Phyllis Zimmerman, of Tinton Falls. His Brother Bill Zimmerman and wife Kim, of Ocean. His nephew Dylan Zimmerman, of Little Silver. His nieces, Melissa Chrisp and husband Tim of Jacksonville Beach FL. Genny and Alan Kennedy of Panama Bch, FL. Alysha and Giovanni Prignano of Morganville,NJ.
