Kevin Brophy

September 12, 1947 — February 3, 2021

Kevin Brophy, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021. Kevin was born on September 12, 1947, in Queens, New York, the only son of Katherine and John Brophy and the second of their five children. He grew up in Queens and attended St. John’s University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in English, which helped cultivate his lifelong love of words, phrases, and his trademark hobby of bequeathing nicknames. In 1973, he met the love of his life, Mary Mulvihill, in Manasquan, New Jersey. They married on December 14, 1974, and thereafter moved to Clifton, New Jersey, where they started a family, raising three active boys. He moved to Wayne, New Jersey in 1993, and retired to Manasquan in 2010. Kevin became a successful businessman in the healthcare finance sector through years of hard work and self-discipline. He loved competitive sports, especially watching the New York Yankees, and was a New York Football Giants season ticket holder for decades. He enjoyed reading, going to the beach, spending time doting on his grandchildren, and walking his dog, Rosie. His true Irish wit, keen and unique sense of humor, intelligence, warm smile, and caring heart shone through to all family and friends alike. His lifelong Catholic faith, enduring spirit of hope, and the love of his family kept him fighting through several health setbacks in his later years. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Brophy, of Manasquan; his three children: Daniel and Nancy (Atorino) Brophy of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Thomas and Kelly (Henry) Brophy of Wayne, New Jersey, and Matthew Brophy of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey; his five grandchildren, Lia Brophy, Jack Brophy, Grace Brophy, Alexandra Brophy, and Kevin Brophy; and his four sisters, Mary Gallagher of East Windsor, New Jersey, Ann Lenarsky (Carl) of Dallas, Texas, Theresa Brophy of Manasquan, New Jersey, and Agnes Brophy of Maplewood, New Jersey; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of his life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salesian Missions, 2 Lefevre Lane, New Rochelle, New York, 10801-5710.
