Judith (Judy) Cynthia Grabfelder passed away at age 84, on Thursday, February 25th. Judy lived in Brooklyn and Queens, before moving to NJ, in 1972, where she lived the rest of her days. She was happily married for 60 years to her beloved husband Sam, until his passing in 2016. She spent her years after Sam living with her daughter, Ronni. Judy is survived by her daughters, Robin, Ronni, and Erica; sons'-in-law, Sergio and Bear; grandchildren, Kira, Ariana, Jade, and Devyn; Devyn’s husband, Mayank; her great grandchildren, Hailey, Emily, Brea, and Scarlett; her sister, Rosalie; her niece Holli; and nephew, Alan; and their families; Ronni’s two cherished cats, who brought Judy joy and laughter, Nimoy and Bardot; and many more close friends and loved ones.
Until Judy‘s later, less mobile years, one of her favorite pastimes was a leisurely day of shopping and having lunch with friends. Her last four years, bedbound, she indulged in her other lifelong favorite pastime, watching TV. She enjoyed old sitcoms, which she found easy and comforting; a few old favorite movies, such as Dirty Dancing, which she watched just weeks ago and later commented how very much she enjoyed it; courtroom shows; and game shows, both old and new. But there was nothing Judy enjoyed more or that mattered more to her than time with her family, whether in person or on FaceTime. Or the weekly phone calls with her sister, Rosalie. She loved all her daughters as much and more than anyone ever loved another person. And Judy would especially light up anytime she could have a conversation with any of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Judy adjusted to her profoundly changed circumstances as well as anybody could. She still found ways to enjoy her day, every day, and to laugh wholeheartedly and often. Judy maintained a wonderful sense-of-humor that helped us all. She would look forward to even the smallest of things, including her next popsicle or a cup of Jell-O with whipped cream. She even enjoyed her daily visits from her home healthcare workers and her Visiting Nurse, all of whom provided her with not just excellent care, but also with friendship.
What we want most of all for anybody reading these words to know about Judy is that she was one of the most beautiful individuals a person could ever know, with the biggest and kindest of hearts. To those of us who loved her dearly, her light will shine bright in our hearts all the rest of our days.
