Joyce Williams, 84, passed away on March 27, 2017 at Arbor Terrace Shrewsbury Assisted Living. She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Williams, her son, Barry Williams, her sister, Louise Singleton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, “children”, “grandchildren” and other family members. She is predeceased by her mother, Pauline Stephens, her father, Hubert Stephens and her brothers, Paul Harris, Daniel Harris, Jr. and Jerome Stevens (nee Stephens).
Joyce was born in Neptune, NJ. She moved to Red Bank, NJ in 1962, where she remained a resident for over 50 years. She worked as a computer programmer at Fort. Monmouth Army Base in Eatontown, NJ for nearly 30 years until she retired in 1995.
Up until the past few years when her health declined, for decades she was an active and beloved member of the Red Bank community, volunteering countless hours to various causes and organizations, including the Westside Community Group, the Neighborhood Preservation Program, the Parker Family Health Center, the Red Bank Regional High School Source Program, Lunch Break, the Red Bank Alliance to Prevent Drug Abuse, the Count Basie Learning Center and the Visiting Nurse Association. She also volunteered her time to help with voter registration drives and various Red Bank events, including the annual Westside Christmas tree-lighting ceremony and the town-wide “Ride the Train with Santa”.
Per her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be planned for a date still to be determined.
