Josephine Pilot Godowski, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at Brandywine Senior Living at Reflections, Brick Township..
Josephine was born Aug. 18, 1917 in Passaic, and lived in Hasbrouck Heights, Stuart FL, and Eastham, MA, before moving to Tinton Falls in 1999, and then to Brick in 2008. She was a business teacher for twenty-five years, in Passaic, Fair Lawn, Wood-Ridge, and for the last seventeen years of her career at Lakeland Regional High School, in Wanaque, NJ, where she retired in 1981.
She was a graduate of Trenton State College in 1940, and received her Master's Degree from Montclair State College in 1970. She loved spending summers with family at Cape Cod, and enjoyed swimming, golfing, and square dancing.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Edmund V. Godowski, in 1998, sister, Stasia Shelfer, brothers, Edward and Henry, and by her grandson, Aaron Boesch, in 2008.
She is survived by her sisters, Jean Pilot of Bloomfield, and Helen Staruk, of Martha's Vineyard MA, along with her four children: Margaret Boesch and her husband Michael, of Monterey, VA, Edmund, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL, Elizabeth Torre and her husband, Richard, of Pt. Pleasant, and Paul and his wife, Melanie, of Santa Rosa, CA, and Kona, HI. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Christopher, Katie, and Jaeda Godowski, Justin Boesch, and one great-grandchild, Ruby Jane Boesch.
The Godowski family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the staff of Brandywine Reflections in Brick, and to the Serenity Hospice for the exceptional care she has received in the final years of her life.
A gathering of family and friends will be held in her honor on Sunday, September 7th. Interment services will be private. Those who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association , 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834, in her memory.
