John F. Smith, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9th at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. John was born in Milltown to Sabina and Jacob Smith of Poland. A WWII veteran, John served as a mechanic in the 1913th Engineer Aviation Battalion in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He worked for the Hercules Powder Co. in Parlin for 34 years, where he retired in 1977. John built his home in Piscataway where he happily resided for 53 years. Poppy was an avid farmer and hunter and was a member of the Hercules Rod & Gun Club.
He loved his NY Yankees and also enjoyed travelling: Rio de Janeiro, Portugal, cruises. He also owned a mobile home in Titusville, FL for over 20 years.
John was predeceased by siblings: George, Sophie (Nagy), Mary (Clyde), Alex, and Polly. Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years: Doris, sons: Rich (wife Judy) and Gary (wife Eileen), grandchildren: Michelle (husband Tom), Mark, Lora (husband Mike) and Kevin, great-grandchildren: John, Alex, Natalie and Sullivan and youngest brother: Hank.
