John Thomas Neary, better known as Muskrat Jack, or just Jack, passed away at home surrounded by family on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the age of 75. Jack called Point Boro home for 40 years.
Muskrat Jack devoted his life to the humane rescue and rehabilitation of animals. He served as Animal Control officer for several municipalities. Jack had a strong faith in recovery and was a source of compassion and support for those in need. Muskrat Jack was proud of his Irish heritage and loved to share about his trip to Ireland. Jack spoke often of retiring to County Maigh Eo, on the West Coast of Ireland. Jack’s family will bring him to Ireland to honor his final wishes.
John is predeceased by his parents, John (Pete) Neary and Vivian Neary and his loving sister, Roberta Neary. John is survived by his nieces, Erin and Jennifer Osborn, Jen’s husband Mark Gaskin, as well as great nieces and nephews, Darius Osborn, Nathan Osborn, Vivian Gaskin, Catherine and Madeline Gaskin, Juliana Osborn, Noah Osborn, Jaden Osborn and Grace Osborn.
Muskrat Jack’s family is overwhelmed and extremely grateful for all of the shared memories, stories and pictures that have been shared since his passing.
Please join the family on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2025 at 11:00am at the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Department No. 2 located at 614 Laurel Ave, Point Pleasant Beach to celebrate the life of Muskrat Jack.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the Ocean County Animal Shelter, 615 Freemont Ave Jackson, NJ 08527.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan.
