John Francis Mccauley

July 28, 1945 — December 26, 2024

With great sadness and everlasting love, we announce the passing of John Francis McCauley on December 26, 2024, at the age of 79. After a long and fulfilling life, John leaves a profound legacy as a devoted husband, cherished father, beloved gramps, and a treasured friend to many.

John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Terri McCauley; his sister, Rita Marie Stone; his daughters, Maribeth McCauley and Megan McCauley; Megan’s husband, Eric Weinstein; and his beloved grandchildren, Graham Henrik (6), Katelyn Shea (5), and Liam Francis Weinstein (1).

Born on July 28, 1945, in New York City to Francis and Rita McCauley, John grew up with a deep sense of responsibility and value of family. He attended St. Brendan’s Elementary School and All Hallows High School in the Bronx before graduating from Belknap College. He briefly served in the US Army and eventually earned his master’s degree at SUNY New Paltz. John’s career spanned many roles, including running his own companies before eventually going to work for the State of New York, where he formed lasting friendships and made significant contributions before retiring at 72.

In 1969, at the urging of his sister Rita, John reluctantly agreed to a blind date in Sea Bright, NJ with Theresa Boyd, the younger sister of Rita’s friend, Mary Ann McNulty.

While both John and Terri were initially hesitant to trust their sisters' matchmaking, that Memorial Day dinner sparked a love that lasted 55 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, two daughters, many adored dogs, one very special cat, three wonderful grandchildren, and countless memories filled with both laughter and tears.

John and Terri lived in Ardsley, NY and Sea Bright for many years and enjoyed traveling together and with their family. John’s last wish was to be at home with his family, and thanks to the loving care of a wonderful hospice team, he was able to do so in Sea Bright, surrounded by his loved ones.

John was known for his strong will, sharp intellect and sometimes demanding nature. While he wasn’t always the easiest, he was a man with a generous heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and a deep love for his family and friends. His sincerity, kindness, and words of wisdom touched the lives of many and will be remembered by all who knew him.

John passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, his friends, and his faith. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will be cherished.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at 11 am at Church of the Holy Family, 83 Clove Road, New Rochelle, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Carolina Poodle Rescue, an organization he volunteered with from which he adopted his beloved dogs. Donations can be made at carolinapoodlerescue.org in John’s name.

Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
