John Jack Geiger, Jr

April 28, 1923 — March 19, 2018

John J. Geiger Jr., (Jack) 94, formerly of Spring Lake, passed away after a short illness on Monday, March 19th, 2018, surrounded by his family. Jack was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey and has lived in the shore area since the 1950s. He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep and attended Georgetown University before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was a World War II veteran having served in New Guinea and the Philippines from 1943 to 1945. Jack was a member of the Alamo Scouts, an elite reconnaissance and intelligence unit, formed and trained at the direction of General Walter Krueger, commander 6th U.S. Army. Recognized by the Army as a forerunner of the modern Special Forces, the Alamo Scouts reconnoitered Japanese held territory to determine enemy strength and fortifications prior to beach landings by U.S. troops. Following his return, he joined his familys trucking business, John S. Geiger Sons and later Brennan Brothers Heavy Equipment Specialists. Jack was predeceased by his mother Hilda Winter Geiger, his father John J. Geiger, Sr., his sisters Mary and Ruth, his daughter Gretchen Geiger Kelly, and his sons in law Ronald Clayton and John Stewart. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty, his children, Mary Beth Clayton, Joan Norkus (Don), Barbara Leddy (Mark), Carol Stewart, Maria Checton (John), Heidi Fay (Kevin), Madeleine Kineavy (Frank), and John J. Geiger III (Joanie), as well as 29 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 more on the way. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 24th at Saint Marks Church in Sea Girt, NJ. Jacks unique sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation Service, 36 Broad Street, Manasquan, NJ.
