Janet Mary Thompson, born August 29th, 1950, died May 22nd, 2018.
Janet was born to Jeannette Marie Higgins and Robert Spencer Thompson in Fort Monmouth, NJ, the fourth of five children, and only girl. Janet lived a full and exciting life in various parts of the northeast, settling for the most part in Monmouth County, NJ. She was a vibrant and fiercely intelligent woman whose career with AT&T at Bell Labs in Holmdel kept her at the forefront of cutting edge technology in the communications industry. Her grit and determination kept her in the game with what she called the "big boys," which was somewhat of a rarity in her day. Never having gone to college after high school, she earned her Associates degree from Brookdale Community College as an adult, and graduated with honors, and as a member of a national honors society.
Janet is survived by a faithful, loving husband, Gary Patrick Hennessy, two beloved sons, James John and David Louis Kelly, three brothers, Terrance, Robert and Kevin, daughter-in-law Liza Christine Kelly, and two grandchildren, Devin and Ryan.
Personal Notes from Family:
Gary (Husband) - Janet, I feel blessed to have been able to walk by your side through a significant portion of your life. You were a source of my strength and motivation through that period as you still are at this time. I will miss your friendship, smile, touch, laughter, wit and guidance. I more fully comprehend how Love Never Dies since you are now gone, but my love for you is still overwhelming. Rest in peace, my Companion.
Jim (Son) Mom. I am so thankful for these past two years, visiting you often, sharing stories, talking seriously about life, getting to know and appreciate you more than I thought possible. You are my hero. You are unbelievably strong, resilient, brave, smart, determined, loving, and beautiful. Your life saw no lack of suffering, but you always persevered through it. You always loved and looked out for us. You always provided for us, and set an example of what it means to take the high road, and work hard. That I could be the giant of a parent to my children that you are to me is my goal. Ill always love you with the warmest affection, and I will miss you terribly.
Dave (Son) - I don't know where I'd be without you, and I am surely at a loss right now, but, as I've learned from your example, I am just keeping my head down and pushing through the many projects I'd set out to do before you left. As your mother kept her problems to herself to the very end, and you stuck beside her the whole time, I, in turn, dedicated my life to you for the past seven years. I knew you were sick, but, had no idea how insurmountable the odds were, after your rapid decline over the last six months of your life. You were always my inspiration and motivation, regardless of my intent. I find solace in knowing that you are still with me, and I can't wait to see you again. My fondest memories will always be of you when I was about 5 or so. I remember you as that woman, and not the withered away version of you after your initial illness. You were taken too soon, but, most certainly at the right time, because you had suffered long enough! I hope to have the same resolve when it is my time, and, since this life is the blink of an eye, then tonight, we will drink wine and dance together, wherever your soul rests, because, since I lost you here, I will find you there! Until then, with love, your forever adoring son, David.
