Janet Finch Post

Janet Finch Post, born on February 8, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was the cherished daughter of Cyrene Bogardus Finch and William Finch, and the beloved granddaughter of Cyrene and Harry Bogardus, all of whom predeceased her. Janet was also predeceased by her devoted husband, Nicholas, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. She lovingly cared for him for 15 years before his passing. After losing her parents, Janet became a dedicated caregiver to her brother, William Finch, who relied on her deeply.

Janet’s greatest joys were her daughter, Sharon Baranowski; her son‑in‑law, Mark; and her treasured grandchildren, Gabrielle and Travis, who were truly the light of her life. She also shared a special, lifelong bond with Sharyn “Sherry” Paterson, whom the family considers a daughter. Janet’s love, guidance, and presence will be missed beyond measure. She treasured every moment spent with her family and took immense pride in watching them grow.

For more than five decades, Janet was a devoted and active member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Brick. In 1974, she founded the Cherub Choir, welcoming children ages three and a half to six. She led the choir faithfully for 52 years, pouring her heart into the joy and music the children brought to the church. Many of them lovingly considered her their “second mom.”

Janet possessed a remarkable singing voice and generously shared that gift throughout her life. She sang for funerals and weddings and was an integral member of the Chancel Choir, Praise Team, and Lightshine at Saint Paul’s. Music was one of her greatest passions, and she cherished the friendships formed within those groups.

Professionally, Janet spent most of her life working in banking, where she built lasting friendships and was known for her warmth, humor, and steady presence. She had a radiant smile, laughed easily, and brought light wherever she went. Her favorite color was yellow—a perfect reflection of the brightness she shared with the world. She loved her friends deeply, and they loved her in return.

Above all, Janet loved God and was never ashamed to share her faith with others. Her faith guided her daily life, shaped her kindness, and inspired the way she cared for everyone around her.

Services Family and friends are invited to gather at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, 714 Herbertsville Road, Brick, NJ 08724, on September 19th, 2026, with visitation at 10:00 AM and funeral service at 11:00 AM.

A repast will follow the service, and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made to St. Paul’s Pet Ministry or to the animal charity of your choice.
