Jane Wellington Greenwald

May 19, 1929 — October 4, 2025

Wall Township, NJ

(Barbara) Jane W. Greenwald, 96, Wall Twp, NJ passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025 with loving family members by her side. Jane leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, quiet strength, and fortitude throughout her life as an educator, dedicated volunteer, faithful congregant, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As demonstrated throughout her life, Jane remained strong in mind and spirit to the end.

Growing up in Dover, NJ, Jane was a member of Teabo Methodist Church and graduated as valedictorian in both eighth grade and from Rockaway Twp High School (1945). She majored in History & English at Montclair State Teachers’ College, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1949. She met her college sweetheart and Allenwood native, Clifford Greenwald there, marrying in 1950 and beginning their education careers teaching in Wall and Manasquan, respectively. They soon settled in their beloved home in Wall Twp which was the backdrop for a dedicated, loving marriage that lasted their lifetime. Jane was a highly respected fourth grade teacher in Allenwood School for many years before pausing to raise their two children. She was a lifelong member of NJEA and maintained a deep commitment to education by serving as a long-standing, faithful substitute in the Wall Twp Schools while her children were young, a Mentor/Evaluator of Student Teachers for Kean University, and as a Math teacher at Wall High School for many years before she retired.

Jane embraced the towns of Wall Twp-Manasquan-Sea Girt-Spring Lake as though she was born and raised in the area and possessed a deep, vast knowledge of their history. She put that love to use as a faithful member and tireless volunteer for the Manasquan Jr. and Manasquan Women’s Clubs, Wall Twp. Public Library Board (serving as President for these three organizations numerous times), Wall Historical Society, Manasquan VNA Thrift Shop, St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church (Spring Lake) since 1953 - Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Choir Leader, member of both the St. Andrew’s Choir & United Methodist Women (UMW), and Francis Asbury Methodist Home (Ocean Grove).

Jane was predeceased by her loving husband, Cliff in 2006, and is survived by her daughter, Susan (Greenwald) Gilbert and husband, Darren Gilbert, son, Thomas Greenwald and wife, Jill Huss Greenwald, and beloved grandchildren, Colette Gilbert, Grant Gilbert, Georgiana Greenwald, Thomas Greenwald, Jr., and a step-granddaughter, Kristina Strano.

A Memorial Service and reception will be held on November 7, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Fourth and West Lake Avenue, Spring Lake. Interment will be private.
