Jamie John Mullenax

Jamie John Mullenax, 60, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Jamie moved to Vale Homes in Shrewsbury Township, New Jersey, as a young boy, where he would go on to build a life filled with family, friendship, adventure, and countless cherished memories.

Jamie was an exceptional outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing along the Jersey Shore and throughout the mountains and woods of West Virginia. Some of his most treasured memories were made traveling to his family's home in West Virginia with his parents, sisters, and nieces. Those trips became beloved traditions filled with laughter, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable hunting seasons spent amid the breathtaking landscapes of West Virginia.

From an early age, Jamie was a devoted athlete with a passion for sports, particularly football and baseball. He graduated from Monmouth Regional High School in 1984. Even after his playing days were over, his love of sports never faded. He remained a loyal fan of Baltimore teams, especially the Ravens and Orioles. Jamie's interests extended far beyond sports and the outdoors. His love of music led him to countless concerts and adventures, each one adding another memorable story to share.

Jamie was also known for his strong work ethic. He began his career with the Shrewsbury Township municipality before pursuing work that combined his love of nature and animals. Through his talent, dedication, and creativity, he designed and built beautiful landscapes and ponds, bringing his appreciation for the outdoors to homes and communities throughout the area.

Above all else, Jamie's greatest joy came from spending time with the people he loved. Wherever he went, he brought his unforgettable smile, generous heart, infectious spirit, and unmistakable charm. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Jamie loved sharing the lessons his father had taught him and took pride in passing those traditions on to others. Whether teaching someone how to camp, handle a bow and arrow, cast a fishing line, or simply appreciate the outdoors, he was always eager to lend a hand and share his knowledge. Known for his kindness, humor, and larger-than-life personality, Jamie could light up any room he entered and was often the life of the party, bringing laughter and joy wherever he went.

Jamie's legacy will not be measured by achievements alone, but by the love he shared, the memories he created, and the countless lives he touched. To his family, Jamie was so much more than the memories they shared. He was the person they could always count on, the one who could make them laugh when they needed it most, and the one who always seemed to have a story, a joke, or a lesson to offer. He found happiness in life's simplest pleasures—being outdoors, sitting around a campfire, spending time with loved ones, or simply enjoying another day together. Those ordinary moments became extraordinary because Jamie was there. His smile, laughter, stories, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

As a father, Jamie gave his daughter not only his love, but also a lifetime of lessons, traditions, stories, and adventures that she will carry with her forever. He taught her to appreciate the outdoors, work hard, find joy in life, laugh often, and, most importantly, cherish family. Those lessons will continue to live on through her and through future generations.

Jamie was predeceased by his father, Jamie O. Mullenax; his mother, Marie Ann Mullenax; and his brothers-in-law, John Cataldo and Brian McGinley.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Patricia Mullenax; his wife, Mary Jo Cataldo; his sister, Janet Lay, and her husband, Bobby Lay; his sister, Nanet McGinley; his nieces, Diana Lay, Kristen Nobles and her husband, Joe Nobles, Jana O'Neil and her husband, Scott O'Neil, and Leana Katz and her husband, Craig Katz, along with their children; his brother-in-law, Michael Cataldo, and his wife, Stephanie Cataldo, and their sons, including Little Johnny Cataldo; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

Jamie will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. While his life ended far too soon, the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will continue to live on through his family and everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Those who loved Jamie will carry a piece of him with them—in the woods, on the water, around a campfire, at a ballgame, at a concert, and in the quiet moments when a story, a laugh, or a cherished memory brings him back to mind. His greatest gift was simply being Jamie, and there will never be another quite like him.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life to honor and remember Jamie. Additional details will be announced in the coming days.
