James Clifford Mechtel of Lakewood, NJ went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the age of 83. His final days were spent surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John and Matilda Mechtel.
He grew up in Bridgeville, PA and graduated from St. Luke High School in 1954. He met the love of his life, Kathryn Ann Wisser. Together, they enjoyed an amazing 61 years of marriage. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1967. His career in engineering and computers had them moving throughout their married life.
Jim loved to fish, bake, and create projects to help others in need. Gardening and rooting on the Spartans also gave him great pleasure. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his treasurers and brought him great joy.
Nothing meant more to Jim than his family and his faith. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakewood for the past 10 years and the prior 28 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dover.
Jims legacy of "family and faith" shall be carried on by his survivors. His 6 Daughters: Nadine Cain, Marci Mechtel, Kathy Spear, Lisa and Gregg Tattersall, Angela and Eric Gehring and Wendy and Lou Nucci; and his 10 Grandchildren: Johnathon, Caitlin, Alexis, Kelly, Chelsea, Zachary, Andrew, Courtney, Dominick and Vincent; and his 2 Great-Grandchildren: Elijah and Isaac. Also surviving him are numerous nephews and nieces. Jim was predeceased in death by his brothers Jack and Gerald and his son-in-law John Cain.
Jim was a Master Mason, member of Oleika Shrine. He was member of the Parsippany Kiwanis. He supported Your Grandmothers Cupboard and was on their Board of Directors. The family will receive relatives and friends at 2 oclock in the afternoon with a funeral service to follow at 3 oclock at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 20 Monterey Cir, Lakewood, NJ 08701 on Saturday August 3, 2019.
