James Francis King

August 13, 1948 — January 18, 2024

James Francis King, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, 75, passed away on January 18, 2024. His journey came to a peaceful end at Jersey Shore Medical Center surrounded by his immediate family. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio and was raised in Teaneck, NJ. He graduated from Teaneck High School in 1966. He continued his education at the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas where he graduated in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in business. While attending college he met the love of his life and they married in 1971. After starting a family they settled in Franklin, NJ where they remained for 21 years. Following that they moved to Lakewood, NJ where he was still living.

Jim started his career at Nabisco Foods in East Hanover as a quality control manager. He then went to work for his stepfather at F&S Distributor’s Inc. Eventually, Jim and his stepbrother took over the business. Jim poured his heart and soul into growing and sustaining the business. He was proud to bring his son onboard in 2015. Jim continued to work there until his retirement in

2019. Retirement didn’t last long because he went back to work for the company part-time up until his death.

Jim achieved many personal and professional accolades. While raising his family he was very active in the Franklin Boro community. His involvement included coaching his childrens sports, serving on the Board of Education, and serving on the town council. While serving as councilman, he was also serving as police and fire commissioner. This led to him being elected as Mayor, where he served two terms.

Jim was an avid golf lover. He played every day of the week, many times twice a day. He built a great group of friends at his current club and enjoyed many days ripping around on his tricked out red golf cart. Jim also enjoyed bowling in a league and playing pool several nights a week. When not on the golf course, he enjoyed traveling the world by cruise ship with his wife and close friends. He always had his next trip planned.

His greatest joy, besides his own children, were his 5 grandchildren. “Poppy” loved playing dinosaurs with his two youngest, and playing cards and games with his three older grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patty; his daughter, Jamie Parsons, son in law Mike, and grandchildren Emma, Jake, and Grant; his son Jonathan/Bugsy, daughter-in-law Kelly, and grandchildren Nolan and Owen; sister, Carol Ann (Steve) Bray; and Debra (Steve) Phillips.

Jim will truly be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
