Irene Kappes, 79, of Tinton Falls, formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at her home.
Irene was born on July 28, 1938 in Dessau, Germany. She also lived in Innsbruck, Austria for a short time before moving to So Paulo, Brazil where she worked as a secretary and lived until 1962. She moved to the US to marry her husband; they lived in New Castle, DE then moved to Middletown, NJ in 1965 where they lived for 39 years. They moved to the Seabrook retirement community in 2004. She was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Tinton Falls.
Irene was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening. She truly embraced her role as a homemaker. In her younger years she made almost all of her own and her daughters clothing, and not a day went by that she did not cook a formal dinner from scratch and have it ready and waiting for her husbands arrival home from work. Her house, yard, and family were always lovingly and meticulously cared for.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Irwin, in 2012. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Shupp of Lincroft, grandchildren, Sophie and Michael; brothers Thomas and Bastian Hann, and sister Dorothea Pawelke, all of Germany, and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown. Jersey Shore Cremation Service, 36 Broad Street, Manasquan, is entrusted in her arrangements.
