Ilse Wienberg Altmann

March 26, 1940 — July 26, 2021

Ilse Altmann, 81, passed away peacefully at home July 26, 2021 enveloped in the love of her family. Ilse was born March 26, 1940 in Uetersen, Germany to Elisabeth and Johannes Wienberg. Although being a child in Germany during and after WWII was challenging, Ilse had many great memories from her time there. In 1960 she married Herbert Altmann and moved with him to begin a new adventure as an American citizen. Ilse was an adventurous person, strong willed but quick to smile and laugh. She fiercely loved her family and friends. Ilse accomplished so much in life. She raised five wonderful sons, volunteered for innumerable organizations, earned her GED and attended college, and traveled. She was a longtime communicant at Church of the Epiphany in Brick, where she was an extraordinary minister, CCD teacher, and friend to many. Ilse worked as a nurse’s aide, delivery person, limousine driver and finally, her favorite, massage therapist. Ilse’s adventurous spirit led her from Germany to the NJ cities of West New York and North Bergen, followed by Wall Township where she raised her sons, then off to Ellensburg, Washington. For eight years she traveled the country by RV, and during this time, Texas took hold of her heart. In her later years she returned to NJ and lived in the Asbury Towers, Asbury Park where she loved walking the boardwalk every day. Her final adventure took place at Brandywine Living of Wall. Ilse is survived by her brother Uwe of Uetersen, Germany and his family; the father of her children Herbert Altmann, who loved her endlessly; her five sons and their wives: Thomas (Donna) of Port Orchard, WA, John (Simone) of Carnation, WA, Peter (Lauren) of Orono, ME, David (Jaclyn) of Wall, NJ, Stephen (Juliet) of Worchster, MA and four grandchildren, Dain and Skyla Altmann, Carnation, WA, and Ella Rossetti and Lily Repetti-Altmann, Wall, NJ. The family would like to thank Grace Hospice for helping Ilse at the end of her life, and the staff and her friends at Brandywine Living of Wall for keeping her safe, cared for, and loved these last six years. A funeral mass will be held on October 9th at St. Rose Church in Belmar.
