Henry J. Honeywell

Henry Jerolemon Honeywell, a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Ocean Medical Center, Brick on Friday, October 21, 2016. He was 97 years old. A service of “Life Celebration” will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 2pm at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 701 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742. Henry maintained membership in the church for 81 years. At the time of his passing, he was the eldest member of the congregation. His mother had been a lifelong member of the church as well. Henry is survived by his children, Karen Honeywell Jostrom and her husband, Eric H. Jostrom; Harriet L. Honeywell Rola and her husband, Andrew C. Rola as well as three grandchildren; Alexandra Jostrom, E. Harry Jostrom, and Katherine A. Rola. His beloved wife of 60 years, Marian, predeceased him in 2005. Henry's NJ family heritage traces back to the mid-17th century when his ancestors, originally from England, settled in Monmouth County from Bermuda. Henry was born April 25, 1919 in Spring Lake, NJ to Harry Clay and Lillian (Bennett) Honeywell. He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1937. Henry enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1938 at Lakehurst and participated in the national mobilization following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. In WWII, he served at sea in defense of the Alaskan Front and was honorably discharged after VJ Day in 1945. In 1944, Henry married Marian Jensen of Manasquan and they made their home in Seattle, Washington until Henry was discharged from the Navy. They returned to Point Pleasant where Henry continued his government service as a civilian, first at Lakehurst Naval Air Station and later at the Federal Aviation Administration's experimental facility in Pomona, NJ. He retired in 1980. Donations in memory of Henry may be made to the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
