On Friday, May 6, 2020 Harvey A. Minkoff passed away at the age of 80.
Harvey was born in Newark, NJ to Philip and Jean Minkoff. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, David and Richard Minkoff. He is survived by his two sisters, Barbra and Jill Minkoff.
Harvey spent many of his adult years as a semi-professional fast ball pitcher and was recently inducted into the 2019 USA Softball's New Jersey Hall of Fame as one of the best pitchers in the history of New Jersey Fast Pitch. Harvey became interested in softball at age 21. Shortly after, while in the Navy, "Seaman Minkoff" was recruited to join one of the the US Navy's fast pitch ball teams, as the pitcher. Upon finishing his tour of duty, during the Vietnam War, due to his love of the game, he continued pitching for local New Jersey semi-professional fast pitch ball teams and was named "The Dancer" by his teammates for his moves on the field and for his enjoyment of dancing. He would come to win over 700 out of his 1,000 games, threw 35 no hitters and 5 perfect games until his retirement in 1982. As a young child he developed a love for fishing and continued this, his favorite sport, throughout his adult years. He became an avid deep sea fisherman and often shared his most favorite memories with others of his fishing off the coast of Montauk, New York. We wish to thank all those, who in the last few years of Harvey's life, reached out to help Harvey when he needed the extra help that they gave to him.
Funeral services have been delayed due to the current health crisis and will be announced at a later date.
