Grace (Auyang) Chang, age 89, passed away on October 10, 2023 in Wall Township, NJ. She was born in mainland China (Amoy) in 1934, and she led a mainly healthy life. Her family credits her strong heart, healthy diet and active lifestyle for her longevity.
She went to college in Taiwan to study Accounting, where she met her future husband, Peter. After they emigrated to the US, she worked in clerical accounting jobs early in her career, however, her primary focus was her family. Grace was devoted to her husband, Peter, and son, Willy, and took pride in being a full-time homemaker. Grace also loved to travel, and she and Peter were fortunate to take many exciting trips for business and pleasure to Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii and more. They emigrated to NYC and after living in Washington Heights, they moved out to the suburbs of Long Island and later to New Jersey where they lived in Englewood Cliffs, Atlantic City and then finally moved to Wall Township. She was predeceased by Peter in 2021. During her most active years, she enjoyed window shopping and later people watching on the Boardwalk of Atlantic City, which was how she walked miles each day to keep in good shape.
She is survived by her son, Willy (Sheila) Chang and grandchildren, Steven and Hannah; her younger sister, Nanpin and younger brother Joseph, and their children.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations honoring Grace’s memory be made to Think!Chinatown ( www.secure.golively.org ), or another AAPI support organization of one’s preference or the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County NJ/Feeding America ( www.fulfillnj.org ), or another branch of Feeding America.
