George B. Pappa, 87, of Wall, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, surrounded by his family and the love of those closest to him.
Born on February 22, 1939, in New York, New York, George was the son of Pierre Pappa, an immigrant from Épernay, France and Margaret Pappa (née Gallagher) from Bronx, NY. After graduating from high school, George proudly served in the United States Navy as a member of the Naval Airmen Division, stationed in Alameda, California. Following his military service, he began his career with IBM and later worked for Memorex, where he contributed to the development of some of the earliest computers.
One summer, while searching for a place to rent down the shore, George came across an establishment that was for sale. Rather than rent, he and his brother decided to take a chance and purchase it, marking the beginning of what would become the Tropical Pub. This decision changed his life and allowed him to connect with people that became fast friends and also allowed him to become an active part of his community. He later joined the New Jersey Licensed Beverage Association, where he became an officer and helped organize the annual Wellhoffer Picnic, an event he was involved with for 50+ years. Giving back to the community was a passion for George and he dedicated countless hours to charitable events, causes and numerous organizations throughout his life.
Above all, George was a devoted family man. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Susan, building a lifetime of memories, love, and partnership. He was a loving father to Nicole, William, and George, supporting them in their favorite sports, teaching them to ski and guiding them at every stage of life.
George is also survived by his loving sister, Helen Pappa, who held a special place in his life and was like a mother to him; his sister-in-law, Linda Pappa, and her sons, William and Michael Pappa; his brothers-in-law, Robert Harrington and Richard Harrington and his wife, Anna; and his three nieces, Danielle, Michelle, and Amanda.
George was predeceased by his beloved parents, Peter and Margaret Pappa (née Gallagher); his brother, Bill Pappa; and his parents-in-law, Robert C. and Jeanne Harrington (née Taylor).
George was known for his warm personality, kind heart, and unmistakable smile. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, no matter who you were, and his generosity and willingness to help others touched countless lives. Whether spending time with family and friends, supporting charitable causes, or simply sharing a smile, George made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
George will be deeply missed by his beloved family and many friends. Though he may no longer be with us, the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Celebration of George’s life will be held on November 22, 2026, at The Shore Club, 700 NJ-71 in Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate George’s life, share your favorite memories, and honor the wonderful man who meant so much to so many.
Tremendously loved. Forever in our hearts.
