George E. Lund, Jr., 80, peacefully left us to be with God on his 59th wedding anniversary, September 24, 2014. Born in Plainfield, he has resided in Brielle and Manasquan for over 50 years. He was a career banker and Deputy Director for the State of NJ, Alcoholic Beverage Control. Not a stranger to community service, he was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War; served 15 years on the Brielle Elementary School Board of Education, president for 13 of those 15 years; Elder at The Church in Brielle; active in the community working with the Boy Scouts; Little League coach; and Trustee and Officer of the Manasquan Beach Improvement Association. George is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children Marcia Schiavo, Jim (Shannon), and Cindy Kafantaris (Marios); and his grandchildren Chris (Claire) and James Kafantaris, and Jaime and Katie Schiavo. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 5 PM at The Church in Brielle, Riverview Drive, Brielle. In lieu of flowers, George requested that donations be made to Manasquan First Aid Squad or to The Church in Brielle Memorial Fund. Please join George's immediate family and his Leggett's family for a celebration at Leggett's Sand Bar 217 First Ave. Manasquan, immediately following the service.
