Estelle Schorr

September 21, 1923 — April 26, 2018

Estelle Schorr, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 26 at 2:20 am, in Ocean Grove, NJ. Born in the Bronx, NY on September the 21st, 1923 to Abraham and Jenny, Estelle was the middle sister between Hilda Sommer and Dorothy Singer (both deceased). The sisters remained close throughout their lives. She is survived by her children, Terri Kolodny and David Salowitz as well as her son-in-law, Larry Kolodny, daughter-in-law, Jeananne Jensen and her 4 grandchildren, Robert, Adam, Amy and Zoie. Additionally, she is survived by nieces Laurie Rutkin, Arlene Gross and Ellen Hecht and nephews Robert Singer and Larry Salowitz. She was wife to the late Robert (Ruby) Salowitz and later to her second husband, Jerome Schorr, who currently resides in Florida. Educated in the Bronx, Estelle was an accomplished business secretary and seamstress. Married after the war, Estelle and Robert started a family while living in the Bronx. In 1961 they moved to Trenton NJ when Robert became a co-owner of Jonclars Tavern. In addition to raising her children, Estelle began working at Bags, Bangles & Beads in downtown Trenton. Later, she became the stores owner and was beloved by her employees, customers and the Trenton community. In her retirement, Estelle resided in Lawrenceville, later moving to Freehold, NJ. Devoted to her family and friends, Estelle was a beloved matriarch. She was a fervent lover of fine art, music, film and food. She traveled the world extensively, with a wanderlust for touring and exploring countries across Asia, Europe, and South America. She was a real star and she was irreplaceable, adored and bemused by all who met her. Estelle never failed light up a room, cut up a dance floor, bewitch a waiter, deal a hand of cards, hit a high note (albeit not always in the correct key) or put a smile on the face of anyone lucky enough to have the pleasure of making her acquaintance. Estelle was always the life of the party and her grandest wish would be for that party go on; and so it shall, with her memory sparkling in hearts of all who loved her. The family will hold a memorial and celebration of her life on Saturday, May 5th. Jersey Shore Cremation Service, 36 Broad Street, Manasquan, is entrusted with her arrangements.
