Ellen Mary Lazaro

Ellen Mary Lazaro (nee Grippe), 79, of Freehold, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, after a short illness.

Ellen was born on November 25, 1946, in the borough of Manhattan, State of New York, to the late William Grippe Sr and Helen Grippe (nee Costello). After graduating from Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY, Ellen went on to pursue a career in Sales, working at Macy’s as a sales associate/manager for almost 40 years.

Outside of work, Ellen’s life revolved around her daughter, Debra Lazaro-Sweeney. Ellen supported Debra in all of her hobbies and activities and was most passionate about the dog rescue work that Debra did, as well as her daughter’s enthusiasm for showing her dogs in multiple sports. Ellen loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed going to agility trials to watch her daughter compete. In her earlier years, Ellen enjoyed dancing, taking trips to the Jersey Shore, and traveling to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Her favorite sports team was the New York Yankees, and she would spend hours watching the games. Ellen was known for her sense of humor and quick wit.

A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held within the coming months.
