Eleanor Tyler Ryan (or Nell, as she was known to many), 50, of Red Bank, died peacefully on January 7, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Boston to Lisa and Terry Ryan, Nell spent her early years on Cape Cod before the family moved to New Jersey. A talented graphic designer, potter, chef, crafter, painter, musician, photographer, animal-lover and storyteller, Nell’s drive to create and entertain is legendary. Above all she loved to laugh and make others laugh. In college, Nell majored in English with a minor in art and philosophy, earning her B.A. from the University of Vermont, where she forged lifelong friendships, especially with her roommates and devoted best friend, Jennifer Hughes. Nell loved visits with family and friends, competitive Jeopardy games, long walks with her friend and partner, John Szwede, and working with Pastor Joyce at Old First Church.
She is predeceased by her brother Jeremy, her parents, and her husband, John Mavis. She will be so missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and stepdaughter, Nicole Mavis.
Donations in her memory can be made to Old First Church, 69 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ 07748. A Celebration of Life service will be held there on April 13th at 11 a m.
Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan.
