Eleanor “Ellie” Borden Boyce, 95 of Brick Township formerly of Avon-by-the-Sea passed away on June 13, 2023 while surrounded by her family. Ellie was born in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ in 1927. A resident of Avon for 40 years, where she raised her three children. A graduate of Neptune High School where she met Charles and later married in 1948. She attended Monmouth Jr. College. She was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio in 1948 when the U.S. introduced the B-45 Tornado, the first jet bomber, into service. She was later employed at The Hexagon in Fort Monmouth for 21 years. Ellie was a member and past officer of “The Daughters of the American Revolution”, Spring Lake and the Cameo Society of NJ. She was an avid genealogist, tracing family to 1500 Kent, England. She is a descendant of three American Revolutionary Heroes.
Ellie was a faithful communicant of St. James Episcopal Church in Bradley Beach, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and St. Martha’s Guild. Her interests varied; she enjoyed knitting, watching the Yankees and reading, above all however, was her five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. “Nanny” loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a past member of the Avon Leisure Citizens Club, American Rosie the Riveters Association, Past Sunday school teacher and former Jersey Shore Medical Center Candy Striper.
Ellie is predeceased by her husband of 39 years Charles J. Boyce (1984) who served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, her mother Emma Borden Knox (1968), father Harry A. Borden (1961), brother Allen B. Borden (2004), and step-sister Lois Knox Hargadon (2012).
Loving mother and grandmother, Ellie, is survived by her two sons, Gary C. Boyce and wife Judy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald C. Boyce of Peru, Indiana and Daughter Gail B. Vasilenko and husband David of Manasquan, New Jersey, five grandchildren, Michael Boyce and wife Erin, Kristin Guest and husband Andrew, Nicholas Vasilenko and wife Amanda, Alexander Vasilenko and wife Tara, and Zachary Vasilenko and girlfriend Taylor and seven great grandchildren, Cameron, Mason, Ellie, Trey, Dylan, Morgan, and Vivienne.
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday, June 16, at St. James Episcopal Church located at 605 4th Avenue, Bradley Beach, NJ. Interment will be private for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bradley Food Pantry at St. James Episcopal Church or to the veterans at The Manasquan VFW. More information can be located below.
