Edward J. Sims - Tinton (Ret.) Col. Falls

Edward J. Sims AGE: 93 • Tinton Falls Edward J. Sims, Colonel, AUS Retired, from Tinton Falls, died Friday, June 28, 2013, in Neptune, at the age of 93 of complications from a stroke. Col. Sims was a WWII war hero, a master paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He fought in Sicily, Italy, Anzio Beach Head, Holland (He played a major role in leading the assault to seize the railroad bridge in the historic battle depicted by author, Cornelius Ryan, in his book, and the subsequent motion picture, A Bridge Too Far), Battle of the Bulge, and also in the Korean War. He was much decorated with two Silver Stars for Holland and Korea, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, six Commendation Medals and the Combat Infantry Badge with one star. His company (Co. H, 504) was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for their action during the invasion of Italy in 1943. He is survived by his wife, Marion K. Sims; daughters, E. Jay Sims and Leslie (Tina) Nowlin; an "adopted" daughter, Barbara (Willie) Kissinger, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC later this year
