Dwayne Allen Dentz

Dwayne Allen Dentz, born December 7, 1973, passed away at his home in Eatontown, NJ, on July 18, 2026, surrounded by family and friends after a tremendously valiant battle with cancer. His greatest attributes were apparent throughout his entire struggle, showing nothing but remarkable courage, strength, bravery and optimism.

He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Dentz, Sr. and survived by his mother, Dorothy Hill, his brother, Thomas Dentz, Jr., his partner, Kelly Hughes, his sons Owen Dentz, Nathanial Dentz and Hunter Hughes, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones who were considered family.

Dwayne's greatest joy in life was being a devoted father and spending every moment possible with his sons. While not his biological son, Dwayne loved Hunter as if his own and that fate was sealed nearly two decades ago, the moment Hunter called him “D-Daddy”. He took great, well-deserved pride in helping Hunter grow into an amazing young man.

For ten years, Dwayne was committed to his career with the City of Long Branch Public Library where he eagerly took on tasks outside his regular duties, often leaving for work with his own toolbox in-hand to tackle a new project. His earlier careers included landscaping and large-scale mapping for solar and utility projects.

A tremendous artist, Dwayne had an extraordinary gift for drawing, painting, building and creating. He dreamed up unique characters and brought them to life with his illustrations and unique artistry and made creative visions a reality through repurposing items into functional art, personalizing gifts and creating a backyard oasis with his love for horticulture and talent for landscape architecture. His creativity extended beyond art—he was also a writer who fulfilled his dream of being a published author.

Dwayne had a gentle and compassionate heart, especially when it came to nature and animals. He adored his two beloved dogs and his cat, whose companionship brought him great comfort and happiness. He loved watching the wildlife in his backyard and his window feeder, naming many of them and going to great lengths to help any animal in need.

Music was a passion of his and his favorite playlists ranged from heavy metal to country and included almost every genre in between. He loved to be on the water with a boat or paddle board and a fishing pole in-hand. Most of all, he enjoyed vacations and adventures that provided priceless memories with the ones he loved.

Helping others gave him great happiness. He never missed an opportunity to listen, or provide guidance, even hosting a podcast for a time. If he could bring a smile or a laugh to others, his day was a success. His kindness, generosity, and genuine spirit touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Those lucky enough to be close to his heart will always know his unparalleled devotion and fervorous love.

In keeping with Dwayne's wishes, a celebration of his life will take place at his home in Eatontown, NJ, on Friday, July 24, 2026, between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, followed by a private reception for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Make-A-Wish Foundation.
