Dororthy M. (“Dolly”) Driscoll, 89, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Kings Manor in Neptune, NJ following a long illness. Dorothy was born in Jersey City in 1927 to Garrett and Sophie Stack. Dorothy was a long-time resident of Metuchen with her husband, Richard (“Dick”) Driscoll where they raised their family. Primarily a homemaker, she also worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Regina Corporation of Rahway.
With her children grown, she moved with Dick to Neptune where they attended the Unity Church of Neptune, happily participated in local square-dance events and were active members of the Neptune Senior Center. Dorothy was an amateur thespian taking starring roles in several community productions including “All My Sons” and “Life with Father.” One of her passions was painting, especially the seaside scenes of the Jersey Shore. Her best-known piece, “Unstill Life”, a landscape of the old wooden fishing pier in Ocean Grove prior to its destruction by hurricane Sandy, depicts the pier under the ominous on-coming storm clouds. The piece won two blue ribbons at local folk-art shows. Also, her unique apparel decoration techniques were sought after by friends, neighbors and local craft-fair fundraisers for their style and originality.
Dolly is survived by her husband, Richard M. (“Dick”) Driscoll, son Garrett Driscoll, and her grandchildren Erin Miller, Evan Driscoll and Nicole Amador and several nieces and nephews. Her son, Michael Richard Driscoll, pre-deceased her.
Cremation services are private under the care of Jersey Shore Cremation Services of Manasquan.
Those wishing to honor Dorothy’s memory are asked to donate to their house of worship or favorite charity in her name.
