David Y Mauzy, 66 of Brick NJ and formally of Harrisonburg, VA died Monday, November 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
He was born June 8, 1949 in Winchester, VA and was the son of the late Layton Yancey and Catherine Simmons Mauzy.
David graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1968 and worked his entire career as an Ice Cream Route Salesman for Fairmont Foods, Monticello Dairy, Shenandoah’s Pride and Whitewave Foods. He was proudly known as the “Ice Cream Man”.
Surviving are his daughter, Wendy Patrice Dressler and husband Brian of Brick, NJ, daughter, Heather Mauzy Salmon and husband Lew of Marietta, GA, son, Joshua Vincent Knicley and partner Ginny Campbell of Mint Springs, VA and daughter, Faith Ellen Morris of Harrisonburg, VA. Sister, Kay Green and husband Gary, sister, Sandra Jones and husband Dennis, sister, Patsy Scott and husband Bobby, brother Billy Mauzy all of Harrisonburg. Sister, Barbara Erickson and husband Tom of Clemmons, NC. Sister, Linda Ford and husband Bob of Raleigh NC. Grandchildren, Brittany and Derek Salmon of Marietta, GA. Caden Dressler of Brick, NJ. Hunter Campbell and Abagail Knicley of Mint Springs, VA. Mauzy had numerous stepchildren, nieces and nephews and his special companion; dog, Cooper DeLoach Dressler that he loved dearly.
Mauzy had many friends that became like family over his lifetime. He was a member of several organizations including the Jaycees, AMVETS Post 7, VFW Post 632 and Fraternal Order of Eagles all of Harrisonburg.
The family will commiserate his life at a service on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Lantz Chapel at Bridgewater Retirement Community at 10am, following a casual Celebration of his Life at O’Neill’s Grill in Harrisonburg for family and friends between 1pm – 4pm.
