David J. Layton

David J. Layton, 89 of Lakewood, NJ passed away on June 12, 2023 at Ocean Medical Center.

David was born on September 14, 1933 in Toms River, NJ. He was a graduate of Rutgers University where he competed in Track and Field. He served in the United State Army and was a proud member of the Army Band. After his military service, he began a 33 year long career with the State of New Jersey. David was a gifted pianist and loved to sing. He was also an avid baseball fan.

David leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Ida J. Smith and father William P. Layton, Sr., his sister Carolyn “Betty” Dryburgh and brothers William and Edward Layton.

A funeral mass will be held on June 24th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church located at 1500 Hooper Ave, Toms River, NJ at 12:00pm. Interment will be private.
