David Crosson

March 7, 1929 — June 18, 2025

David Crosson of Wall was 96 years old but still young at heart when he passed away on June 18, 2025. His kindness, generosity and welcoming smile will be dearly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dave grew up in Maplewood, NJ. Summers were often spent at his grandparents’ rural homestead, Woods Edge, and at the Jersey Shore. He attended Columbia from 1947-1951, graduating with a B.A. degree. After graduation, Dave served in the U.S. Army as a Special Agent with the Counter Intelligence Corps in Germany. He traveled throughout Europe and served with honor until 1953.

Dave then joined the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company as a field representative in Albany, NY. In 1955 he met the love of his life, Barbara. They married in 1956 and moved to the Jersey Shore. Dave worked locally in the flooring industry for 37 years, rising to the position of executive vice president. He was well-known as an expert in hand-knotted and woven rugs from around the world.

Dave appreciated experiencing new activities, particularly with his children. He loved beach time with family and friends, greeting everyone he encountered while strolling the boardwalk and watching the action at the Manasquan Inlet. He enjoyed tennis, fishing, gardening, playing piano and dining out. Dave (with Barbara) loved to entertain at their home and timeshares around the country. He was very community-minded and served as Vice President of the Manasquan Jaycees, President of the Wall Community First Aid Squad, a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club, and was an active participant in the Pride of Wall and Manasquan Seniors groups.

Nothing made Dave happier than spending time with extended family. He and Barbara spent many holidays and reunions with them, often gathered around a grand piano for epic sing-alongs! After their children moved away, Dave and Barbara relished frequent visits to their homes across the country and visits by their families to see them at the Jersey Shore.

David Crosson left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. He was known for his unconditional love, generosity, positive spirit, impeccable guidance, loyal friendships, and for being a consummate gentleman. His life well lived continues to inspire those who loved him. He is survived by his three children, Holly Crosson, Colleen Crosson (Mark Sloniker) and Scott Crosson (Janet), four grandchildren, Shannon (Crosson) Fessenden (Sean), Daniel Crosson (Nikkole), Myles Sloniker and Emma Sloniker, seven great-grandchildren, five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Barbara and two brothers. The family expresses special thanks to Dave’s friends who continued to visit him frequently and to a host of compassionate caregivers with Hospice and beyond who kept his health and comfort their priority in his last years.

Services are entrusted to Jersey Shore Cremation Service, 43 Taylor Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
