Daniel Michael Belson, born on September 3, 1950, in Neptune, NJ, passed away peacefully at home in Brick, NJ, on March 26, 2025, at age 74.
He was a hardworking man who worked two different careers for the majority of his life. He was a loving father for thirty years to his two children, Rachel and Michael Belson. Daniel provided many joyous memories, too many toys, and a love for boating for his wife, Gale Belson, of 37 years and children. He loved boating, fishing, and watching movies. He was a creative man who could build and fix just about anything.
Daniel enlisted in the United States Army at age 17 and was honorably discharged at age 20 as an E6 after serving in Korea during the Vietnam War. He started a custom window treatment business, NorDan, in 1971. Later, he rebranded the business as Home Design, Inc., and ran it with his wife until closing the business in 2005. He also became a captain with a 100 ton license in 1986 and operated his 41 foot 1966 Hatteras “Elashan” for fishing trips and family vacations. After becoming a captain, he became a marine surveyor in 1987 under SAMS and continued this work until he retired. He wrote the pamphlet, “Understanding the Marine Survey”, for SAMS.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Norman “Buck” and Verna (Williams) Belson of Florida; brother, Norman Belson of Florida; sister Sandy Belson of Belmar. He is survived by his wife Gale (Herborn) Belson of Brick; daughter Rachel Belson of Brick; son Michael Belson of Brick; his sister-in-law Jane Belson of Florida; brother Gary Belson and wife Anna of Ohio; sister Dorothy Theilen and husband Lou of Brick; sister Yvonne Cales and husband Ron of Tennessee; and sister Karen McGuire and John of North Carolina. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him greatly.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025, at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
